Lead 1861 Brigadier General Lawrence Branch Order Book
Description
Header: Handwritten and bound "order book" from Confederate General Brigadier Lawrence O'Bryan Branch. Orders and letters dating November 27, 1861 to March 12, 1862. Extensive North Carolina Civil War military strategy, history, names, etc. are contained in these letters. Size: 8 1/2" x 6 3/4" Description: Quarter leather, marbled boards, handwritten and signed by Brigadier General Lawrence O'Bryan. The letters contained in this order book are in very good condition. The covers of the book show wear. 171 pages composed of 112 handwritten letters and orders. All originating from "Headquarters Dist. Of Pamlico, New Bern, N.C. Also found within the pages of this book is the authentic, original perosnal card of LOB Branch in ornate calligraphy on heavy card stock. The first letter in this book is dated Nov. 27, 1861 and is addressed to S.R. Mallory, Sec'y Of Navy, Richmond. In it, General Branch discusses his new appointment at New Bern and lays forth some of his ideas regarding strategy for defense of the North Carolina coast. Almost all the letters in this books related to defense of the North Carolina coast and inland areas. These are very detailed letters with strategy, tactical considerations, and materiel needs, etc. Places discussed include but not limited to Hatteras, Roanoke Island, Hyde, etc. Recipents of these letters include but not limited to: Brig. General Richard Caswell Gatlin; Major General Martin,; Stephen Mallory, Secretary of the Navy; Judah P. Benjamin, Secretary Of War; Hon. Henry Toole Clark, Governor Of North Carolina; C.C. Lee, and many more.

Burton Craige, Archibald Craige and David Craige amassed one of the most impressive rare book collection known. Now that David and his wife Donna have downsized, they are letting some of their rarest books be sold at auction with no reserve. Also included is one of the best Daniel Boone letters known to exist! Written to his dear friend James Audubon of which we also have a letter from him. The top 40 books will be professionally cataloged and we will make a simple list on all of the others and many will be sold in large boxed lots. Preview and attendance is a must!! ***JUST ADDED*** We have what we and other experts believe to be Thomas Jefferson's desk from the Rotunda at University of Virginia.
